blue tiger

With tapas style entrees and an extensive drink list, this fusion restaurant inside the Cascade Resort offers a wide range of dishes from sushi to Mediterranean. The staff is always a good time at this slightly off the beaten path restaurant.

alpenrose

Alpenrose is what you think of when you think of the classic Vail Village restaurant. A European feel compliments fine contemporary cuisine. Eating on the deck is accentuated with the completion of the Sonnenalp complex across Meadow Drive which gives this area a fresh extension to the Vail Village feel.

Their full bar has been a favorite for years and you'll know why if you stop by on a sunny afternoon.

vail snow daze

Vail Snow Daze, being promoted as the country's biggest early season mountain bash, is December 3-9 with various events in Vail Village.

The 2007 Dummy Gelunde World Championships looks like a winner... "The 'sport' of Dummy Gelunde involves teams of three creating snowriding dummies attached to a pair of skis or a snowboard and launching them down an on-snow course in hopes of victory". What's not to love about that?

The headline music event is Ludacris & The Roots on December 8. Tickets are on sale for $40 ($50 after November 30) you can get them in town at the Marketplace, the Bottle & Cork in Edwards. Tickets can also be found at the official website, vailsnowdaze.com

the left bank

Reservations are required and can be made online (for parties of 1-4) at this Vail staple that has been serving fine French cuisine since 1970. A phenomenal wine list compliments a quality menu. One of only 4 Zagat rated restaurants in Vail Village, The Left Bank should definitely considered one of the top restaurants in Vail.

A couple of things to know about The Left Bank -- although this restaurant was cash only for years they do now take credit cards and they are closed on Sundays.

menu: Posted on The Left Bank website along with their spectacular wine list.

kelly liken

Kelly Liken is the new standard for fine dining in Vail Village. Named for the chef/owner, this place has some of the best ambiance, service, and quality in town. It has a more modern feel than most places in the Village and if you are not staying right in Vail Village, Kelly Liken has the best parking access for driving in during those cold winter nights.

Simply put, Kelly Liken should be at the top of the list for your fine dining in Vail.

The Cafe and Bistro within the Sonnenalp complex is a welcome addition to the Vail breakfast scene, breakfast sandwiches are always a favorite due to their portability and theirs is a contender.

ore house

The Ore House is old school as it has been serving steaks in their great Vail Village location for over 30 years. It's a classic with many seasonal and front range regulars.

One hidden gem here is the bar menu that features appetizers and some tapas style entrees.

ambiance: Casual to semi-formal

menu: Entrees vary from $20-$45 and include steaks, prime rib, fish and specialty dishes. The menu is posted on the Ore House Website

covered bridge coffee

It hasn't been around forever, but it feels like it. The reason: great breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and coffee. The best location for morning grub in Vail -- it is no secret to locals nor front rangers.

Weekend mornings can be a nightmare line, but one way to avoid it is to miss the line that forms right after the Vail town bus drops people at the transportation center. So if you have the patience (which is usually lacking on a powder day) it's worth it to hang and grab a burrito and a cup o' joe for the wait in line at the Vista Bahn. You'll love chowing down while others walk by and wish they had your front place in line..... if you are the early bird.

ski bar

The Ski Bar location is one of the best around. This place has it all due to it's unique underground layout -- dance floor, a bar room great for hanging with friends and the back room that varies from foosball to Karaoke. The often overlooked 'VIP' room could be the best place for a group in town since you can take turns chilling out and dancing.

Formerly known as Club Chelsea and FuBar, when the current ownership took over they gave it a nice little face lift.

ambiance: It is called Ski Bar so you are welcome wearing whatever for apres. Ski Bar keeps it mountain style at night.

samana

The highest quality dancing in Vail, Samana has a much more urban feel than any other Vail hangout: ropes contain the waiting lines and the godfather booths are a great place to hang out.

Samana also gets great live acts for the size of the venue so it's definitely worth checking out a show or DJ and knocking back some Red Bull Vodkas with a dance crew.

They do book private parties and is one of the easiest places in town to get it done online. You can book a reservation for a table or the entire bar online.

ambiance: urban hip with some mountain style

vail oktoberfest

It's the late summer/early fall when you start to feel the twinge in the air and ponder that new board or skis you just checked out in the gear magazines. Oh yeah and put on leather shorts and drink beer. It's Oktoberfest and this year's Oktoberfest is September 7-9 in Lionshead and the 14-16 in Vail Village.

Who wouldn't miss events like Yodeling Demonstrations and the Brat Eating Contest? Well probably not you if it's the classic sunny day that Oktoberfest is known for.

You can download a detailed schedule of events from the Oktoberfest site and if you are coming up from the Front Range there are lodging specials for Oktoberfest if you call 1-800-653-4523.

la bottega

Whether it's the local's special 14" cheesesteak for two or more classic Northern Italian cuisine, La Bottega is a great place to go just because of the settings. The recently remodeled feel of both the restaurant and wine bar are a great addition to a solid menu.

One relatively undiscovered place for free flowing wine, appetizers and tapas is the wine bar.

atmosphere: Newly remodeled with a vibrant yet cozy feeling. Casual to slightly formal.

the club

The Club is classic Vail not for only it's 'top' of the village location, but for the range of antics that ensue here by tourists and locals alike. A steady progression of live performers have gained local legend status: "The Good Times Man" Steve Meyer, Scott Munns and Mission 19, all have strong followings here -- and for good reason.

atmosphere: Kick back to a song you've known for years, grab a cold beer and wait for the next round of shots to be bought by the unsuspecting guy with the gold card.

calendar of events: Can be found on The Club's website

tap room

One place that always seems to have something going on and with a wide range of audiences. 'Burger and a Beer' nights (Tuesday) always bring in the locals seemingly even more during the shoulder seasons. During weekends and especially during the ski season, if you want a table, you better be there early. Tables fill up by 3 during ski season weekends and stay packed until late dinner.

It's no secret that the Tap Room is probably the best place to watch sports in Vail. Big Screens and football drink specials cater to this and every March you will find college hoops fans enjoying their teams on spring break.

Hidden gems are Monday and Tuesday food specials and the menu. Crowd pleasing American cuisine with regular specials.

Specials are kept up to date on the Tap Room website.

ambiance: Although it is sports oriented, it feels nicer than a sports bar, but outdoor wear is always present. As the night gets later, the feel gets more upscale.
